“Difference and Diversity are central in IB world schools where all students enrolled in the IB programmes should receive meaningful and equitable access to the curriculum.” (Learning diversity in the International Baccalaureate programmes: Special Educational needs within the IB programmes, 2010)
ISU recognizes the diverse needs of students and provides additional support in a variety of forms – within the classroom, in small groups or individually. These requirements are assessed on a continuous basis by the SST (Students Support Team) and resources allocated as per the needs of individual students.
ISU looks at students who come into the school with special needs requirement and students whose needs may be identified during the school year. The Inclusive Education teacher coordinates the provision of services for students with special needs. The student will sometimes receive a combination of services – Remediation, English Language Support and Counselling – to ensure greater success in school life. Support is provided in all three IB programmes, as needed.
In the Inclusive Education programme, collaboration between home, school and student is critical and it is imperative that parents inform the school about potential special needs at the time of admission. ISU admits only students who can be suitably supported within the resources available to us.
