Parent Teacher Group – What’s it all about?

The Parent Teacher Group (PTG) is a way for parents and teachers to come together to support and benefit ISU.

The PTG has two main goals.

1. To strengthen the school community.

We make school a more fun place by arranging events and activities. These events help bring parents, teachers, and children together as a community. Examples from last year include the International Food Evening, the Quiz Night, Valentine’s Day rose and chocolate exchange, Sports Day and the International Spring Fair.

2. To raise funds to improve our children’s educational experience.

Last year, the PTG funded everything from an award to a student for community service, an awning to protect children from the sun, sound equipment for assemblies and special events, to a performance by a French speaking clown as an enrichment activity for language students.

We need more parents to be involved. The more parents who are involved, the stronger we will be and the more we can do. Whether you can just be a volunteer at one event or a year-long part of PTG activities, your help will improve our children’s school.

PTG Enrichment Program

August 2006

Background:

Each school year the PTG helps organize several fundraising activities. The money raised at these events is put aside until the PTG receives and approves requests from teachers.

Purpose:

The purpose of the PTG Enrichment Program is to support teachers in enhancing their students’ educational experience.

Guidelines:

  1. Request should benefit as many students/teachers as possible.

  2. Request should not be for items that are covered under the school budget unless the School Director and Head of Primary support the request

  3. Request should focus on enrichment activities, e.g. Field trips, guest speakers, or medals.

  4. With consultation with the Sports Committee, the PTG will specify one fundraising activity where all proceeds go to the Sports Committee.

Process:

  1. Fill out the Teacher Request Form.

  2. Submit the Teacher Request Form to Head of Primary.

  3. The School Director and Head of Primary will help prioritize the requests for the PTG.

  4. The PTG will discuss the requests at each PTG meeting.

  5. The PTG Liaison will contact the teacher who made the request.

Note:

  1. Please note that the PTG meets once a month. Therefore teachers should plan ahead and submit requests well ahead of the date the event or item is needed.
