Student led conferences will take place on the 31st of March.

Primary parents can read here how to contribute.

From The Director

Greetings,

It is nice to write you again from ISU. I have been out, attending job recruitment fairs, to hire teachers for next year. So far, I have hired nine of the eleven positions needed. We only had five people leave. The additional positions are for expansion of programs and to keep our class sizes small.

ISU takes its responsibility to the community seriously. Recently, due to the Zud, our students collected twenty-eight boxes of clothing and supplies to send. This whole school activity, led by the fourth grade classes, shows the giving nature of our students. The awareness of the world around us, provided by many opportunities of service, is a highlight of ISU, an IB World School.

Additional activities, this school year, involve:

--- Our fifth grade students raised money, to provide to Flourishing Futures, for a green house and helping families with felt and a door for their Ger.
--- We had two Angel Giving Trees prior to winter. These trees had names of those less fortunate that addressed gifts and clothing. These assisted the Fraternity of Notre Dame Children’s Home and the Rainbow Center for Disabled Children.
--- IWAM Toiletries products drive.
--- Raising money for a local university student who was chosen as a class project.
--- Items for “Toy’s for Tots” , sponsored by the US Marines, which will go to a local orphanage.

We appreciate your support of the activities at ISU. We are proud of our students and their willingness to see beyond their daily lives.

My best,
Greg Rayl, Director

The International School of Ulaanbaatar (ISU) is a private, non-profit, secular, co-educational school, which began operation in September 1992 to meet the educational needs of the growing international community.

Permission to open the school was granted by the Mongolian Ministry of Education in May 1992. The Ministry has fully participated in the development of the school. In December 1997, the Mongolian Ministry of Education certified the International School of Ulaanbaatar. In 2003, the International School of Ulaanbaatar received full accreditation from NEASC & CIS and authorization from the IBO. ISU is one of only 150 full three programme IB World Schools worldwide.

Enrollment: ISU currently has 258 students representing 27 nations.  There are 140 students in the Primary School, 118 students in the Secondary School.

Curriculum: The International School of Ulaanbaatar seeks to offer the best educational system possible, based on an international curriculum. For this reason the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) and Diploma Programme (IBP) have been implemented.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The International School of Ulaanbaatar (ISU) is the only internationally accredited school in Mongolia, and also the only IB World school authorized to offer all three programmes PYP, MYP and DP from Pre-School to Grade12. ISU moved to its new purpose built campus located at Four Seasons Garden in 2007. We have 255 students from 27 different countries ensuring an excellent cultural mix. All instruction, except for foreign languages, is in English and our school year runs mid-August to mid June.

Why is international accreditation so important?

We are accredited with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and also the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

This means that Universities worldwide accept our ISU High School Diploma for entry to their institutions, because we have proven that we have met certain worldwide standards in education.

The fact that we also offer the IB Diploma programme (since 2002) means that successful ISU, IB Diploma students are given preferred entry to Universities worldwide. ISU graduates who take the IB Diploma can apply to Universities worldwide as this is the most highly regarded, academically rigourous High School Diploma taken by students.

Where have ISU graduates been accepted to University?

Not only do we have our students accepted at nearly all of the University and Colleges they apply for, but our students have also been offered scholarships to assist with tuition. Some Universities offer scholarships specifically for IB Diploma graduates. An increasing number of Universities also recognize that students who successfully pass the IB Diploma can be given some credit for subjects in their freshman year. This means that students can ‘skip’ some subjects due to very good passes in their IB Diploma subjects. To give you an idea of where some of our students have been accepted, I have listed a few below. This list is not complete at the time of publication and more information is available from our website: www.isumongolia.edu.mn
